DEA Meeting : A-Star Plumbing

Edgar Esparza, A-Star Heating & Air, first met Steve Wilson, A-Star Plumbing, when they were installing something for him.  Since then he has gotten to know Steve over the years and thanked him for introducing them to the DEA and taking on an important role with A-Star.

Steve first thanked everyone who has used him in the past and for those of you who haven’t, you will – it’s inevitable!  We look forward to serving all of you and working together with Edgar on the heating and air conditioning side and representing DEA.  Steve started in DEA in 2004 when he was formerly Wilson Heating & Air Conditioning.  Upon joining A-Star, Steve was asked which customer was his most important and he replied, “they all are!”. Not just because of the business, but also because of the relationships between customers, they are all connected just like a spider web.  He was introduced to DEA by Chris Clausen, CNC Home Care, who called one day needing some work done for his mother-in-law.  He has made a lot of great friends through DEA since then and appreciates the group and its members!

A-Star has a large fleet of vehicles rolling around town – they are bright red and very noticeable, hopefully they haven’t cut any of you off!  They have recently moved into a new building, it’s a huge complex, and it is like a giant beehive in the morning with 100 technicians getting prepared to head out on calls.  The joke about plumbers is that they are never on time.  In fact, Steve said, I almost missed this morning because of a traffic!  So, at A-Star, we give AM or PM windows for service calls.  Once we are there, we won’t leave until we are finished!  They also offer 24/7 emergency service.

It took Steve 8,000 hours to qualify for his Master’s Plumbing License, which he has had since 1981.  He doesn’t recommend trying any large DIY plumbing issues as it restricts what the plumbers can do.  For instance, if you have a clogged drain and put a caustic product down it – the plumbers will most likely not want to put their expensive cameras down the drain.  It’s better to leave it to the professionals!

A-Star Plumbing provides the following services: drain cleaning, repair & installation of toilets (which can sometimes be a challenge as there are some crazy toilets out there nowadays!), leak detection, water heater repair, and sewer cleaning – both residential and commercial applications.  So, they can tackle anything you have!

Steve spoke specifically on new tankless water heaters – if it’s not a part of your life now, it will be in the future!  Due to legislature changes in 2016, it will be impossible to bring regular tank water heaters up to code; therefore, forcing homeowners to change to tankless water heaters.  Tankless water heaters are much more efficient and waste less water.  They heat water directly without the use of a storage tank.  When the hot water is turned on, cold water travels through a pipe into the unit. A gas burner then heats the water.  As a result, tankless water heaters deliver a constant supply of hot water. Let’s think about it, there are 50-gallon double water heaters in attics all over town. An average gallon of water weighs over 8 pounds…you can do the math that that is not a great idea!  They can replace two water heaters with one tankless water heater that is around 2 ft x 2 ft.  Steve recommends having tankless water heaters cleaned twice a year with a vinegar solution.

Brian Eltis, Complete Supply, asked what the average tankless water heater costs?  The average cost is around $4,500.

Chris Clausen, CNC Home Care, also noted that Steve has been great to work with all these years.  He is always super responsive with same day service!
